I am saddened by the passing of my friend and colleague, Tim Carstairs who worked for many years in Handicap International, Mines Action Group and Geneva Call. His death is a great loss to the disarmament movement in the world and our region as well. Tim built strong relations and friendships with many organizations and the people of Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq.
I have to pay special tribute to Tim who took part in a number of workshops and conferences on the explosive remnants of war in our region. His valuable contributions were a blend of professionalism and kindness. He volunteered in our training and awareness projects and he provided our network with educational materials and consultations.
I still remember the last event he attended in Khan Arnaba, Qunaitera directorate in Syria, April 2005, during which he greatly surprised the audience with a three-minute opening done entirely in Arabic. His presentation was widely appreciated by the participants from Syria as well as the other countries in the region. Yes, he was such a lovely person to learn from and be with.
Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and the many people his life touched. Tim will be remembered as an extremely supportive, committed and thoughtful peace-loving campaigner. Let us honor and remember him by keeping his commitments alive as we work together to make them a reality.

Good afternoon
I am unsure if anyone will see this but I have just come across this article.
I wanted to show my appreciation for your kind words towards my father.
Kind regards
Nicolas Carstairs
Thank you Nicolas,
Your father is great and kind man.
This wa posted at that time in many international groups like international campaign to ban land mines as well as coalition on cluster munitions and others. I liked to post it here.
Take care and all the best
Ghassan
