Reflection on Human security and universal health coverage: Japan’s vision for the G7 Hiroshima Summit

23 Jan

Dear colleagues and international campaigners,

It was very interesting to read this article written by Fumio Kishida, the Prime Minister of Japan in The LANCET, widely known public health magazine, few days ago on: “Human security and universal health coverage: Japan’s vision for the G7 Hiroshima Summit”, Fumio Kishida,January 20, 2023, that you find below.

It is worth-mentioning thatthe Group of Seven (G-7) is an intergovernmental organization that meets periodically to address international economic and monetary issues. G-7 countries consist of the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Japan).

In May, 2023, Japan will host the G7 Summit Meeting in Hiroshima and the G7 Health Ministers’ Meeting in Nagasaki—in the Cities of Peace.

As all of us know, the nuclear disarmament campaign as well as other indiscriminate weapons disarmament campaigns are advocating strongly in order to seek and promote human security in the world, anywhere and everywhere.

I believe that our campaigners will build on this new Japan’s vision for the G7 Hiroshima Summit, in approaching G7 countries as well as the world in order to promote the human health and human security through disarmament and stopping the mad military overspending that we see everyday since the escalation of the war on Ukraine in 2022.

All the best
